What to Expect

Your guide to a comfortable and effective chiropractic experience

We understand that visiting a chiropractor for the first time can feel unfamiliar. Here's everything you need to know to feel prepared and comfortable.

1

Before Your Visit

What to Bring

  • Ontario Health Card
  • Extended health insurance card (if applicable)
  • List of current medications
  • Any relevant medical records or imaging (X-rays, MRI)
  • Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing

How to Prepare

  • Arrive 10-15 minutes early to complete intake forms
  • Avoid eating a heavy meal right before your appointment
  • Write down any questions you want to ask
  • Note when your symptoms started and what makes them better or worse
2

Health History & Consultation

Your appointment begins with a thorough discussion of your health. We'll ask about:

  • Your current symptoms and concerns
  • When the problem started and how it has progressed
  • Previous injuries, surgeries, or health conditions
  • Your lifestyle, work environment, and daily activities
  • Your health goals and expectations

This conversation helps us understand your unique situation and develop an effective treatment plan.

Duration: 15-20 minutes

3

Physical Examination

A comprehensive examination helps us identify the source of your problem. This may include:

  • Posture Assessment - Evaluating your standing and sitting posture
  • Range of Motion Tests - Checking how well your joints move
  • Neurological Tests - Assessing reflexes, muscle strength, and sensation
  • Orthopedic Tests - Specific tests to identify problem areas
  • Palpation - Feeling the spine and muscles for tenderness or misalignment

If needed, we may recommend X-rays or other imaging, which can often be done on-site.

Duration: 15-20 minutes

4

Diagnosis & Treatment Plan

After the examination, your chiropractor will:

  • Explain what they found during the examination
  • Provide a diagnosis in clear, understandable terms
  • Discuss your treatment options
  • Recommend a treatment plan with expected timeline
  • Answer any questions you have

We believe in informed consent - you'll understand exactly what we recommend and why before any treatment begins.

5

Your First Treatment

Many patients receive their first adjustment on the initial visit. Here's what to expect:

  • Comfortable positioning - You'll lie on a specially designed chiropractic table
  • Gentle adjustments - Quick, controlled movements to specific joints
  • Popping sounds - You may hear a sound similar to cracking knuckles (this is normal and painless)
  • Immediate relief - Many patients feel better right away
  • Mild soreness - Some experience temporary soreness, like after exercise

We always work within your comfort level and can use gentler techniques if preferred.

✓

After Your Visit

Before you leave, we'll provide:

  • Post-treatment instructions and recommendations
  • Any exercises or stretches to do at home
  • Scheduling for follow-up appointments
  • Insurance receipts for your records

Total first visit duration: 45-60 minutes

Follow-up visits: Typically 15-30 minutes
